A Gift That Keeps Growing, Long After You've Let Go

A poppy seed can lie still in the ground for decades. It waits. Then the earth is disturbed, and it blooms, often in the exact place where something difficult just happened. It's why poppies rose across the fields of Flanders after 1918: the ground had been turned over by the worst thing imaginable, and something small and stubborn grew anyway.

A Start in Life began in ground like that. In 1923, in the years after a war had taken so many fathers, a small group of people decided that the children left behind deserved a start of their own. A seed, planted in hard soil, on purpose.

We named this circle after that seed for a reason. When you tell us you've included A Start in Life in your will, you are planting something you will never see finish growing. That's the whole point.

As a member of the Circle, you'll receive:

• Updates on the students your future gift will help, written as a real letter, not a form email.

• Recognition exactly as much, or as little, as you choose. Most of our supporters, in our experience, would rather give quietly. That's entirely your call to make.
