Katie, now in Year 7, is the kind of student who soaks up every chance to learn – whether it’s writing poetry, exploring science or standing up to speak. She loves music and drama, but opportunities to explore these passions have often felt out of reach for her family.
Before joining Learning for Success, the cost of school activities and extra learning experiences were a real barrier. Camp, music lessons, competitions – they all came with price tags her family couldn’t manage on their own.
But with our support, Katie was able to attend school camp, throwing herself into raft-building, sailing and braving the mozzies. She’s also using her Interests funding to begin saxophone lessons – something she’d dreamed about but not thought possible.
Katie is now putting her talents into action, too. She recently competing in a local Eisteddfod, proudly bringing home a first place trophy and multiple Highly Commended awards – from Shakespearean recitals to public speaking. She also recently won a local young writer’s competition and is active in her school’s Debating and Vocal Ensemble!
With our right support, Katie is turning her ambitions into real opportunities. Her goal is to build her academic and creative talents so she can one day give back to her community – and now she has the chance to make that dream a reality. We can’t wait to see where her journey takes her, because her story is only just beginning
