When Oswald moved out of home in Year 10 due to strained family circumstances, he became solely responsible for his own finances, education and living situation.
Determined to give himself the best start, he successfully applied for a place at a selective high school and sought support from A Start in Life while completing Years 11 and 12.
Throughout various hardships, Oswald discovered the powerful link between physical activity and mental health, sparking a passion that now guides his path. Today, with continued help from A Start in Life, he is studying a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation – earning strong marks while gaining hands-on experience through an internship with a rugby league club.
With A Start in Life’s help, Oswald has had the peace of mind to concentrate on his studies and seize new opportunities.
Looking ahead, Oswald is exploring careers like coaching or exercise physiology – and he’s already taking impressive steps toward these careers.
“This internship has been both greatly enjoyable and informative”
“Personally, I’ve learnt that I love coaching…My greatest achievements this semester are the compliments I’ve received from the head coach at my internship regarding my work ethic and attitude.”
“A start in life has allowed me to be less concerned about my financial situation, allowing me to focus more on my studies. This has alleviated a large amount of stress, as I have a largely increased workload due to my internship this semester.”
